Nutritional Support for your Immune System
Immumax Protecta contains Vitamin C, B Vitamins, Zinc, Probiotics and more – ensuring it is the best all round multivitamin/mineral on the market.
What is the Immune System?
The immune system is the body’s defence against harmful germs. People who have a diet rich in fruits and vegetables (which provide many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants), who exercise and who make good lifestyle choices i.e do not smoke, have better immune systems than those who make poor dietary choices – consuming foods that are high in sugar and processed foods, who smoke and who do not exercise. Poor lifestyle choices can be a major cause of a weakened immune system which can leave the body susceptible to infections.
An imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut can also affect the immune system. An overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut can leave the body susceptible to a weakened immune system. Basically, when your gut bacteria is balanced, so too is the immune system. But when it’s out of balance, so too is the immune system.
Probiotic bacteria is able to hinder harmful pathogens reproducing or even surviving in the gut. They can also control the amount of antibodies in the intestines. This results in a stronger immune system better equipped to fight off disease and illness.
This is why this complex formulation also contains Lactobacillus Acidophilus – a probiotic shown to help balance levels of good bacteria in the gut which will positively affect the immune system.
Keeping your immune system strong is important throughout the year which Immumax Protecta is recommended for all year-round support, not just for the winter months.
How can Immumax help overall health?
Immumax Protecta formulation includes Vitamin D, Zinc & Selenium which all contribute towards the normal function of the immune system, plus Vitamin B6 which contributes towards normal red blood cell formation. Immumax Protecta also contains Vitamin D which not only helps maintain the health of bones and muscle, but also contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
Vitamins E, C and zinc all contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress can occur within the body due to damage free radical cells cause. Free radicals are caused by pollution, sunlight, and cigarette smoke to name a few.
Immumax Protecta also contains vitamins, trace minerals and natural source carotenoids, with vitamin A which contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes. Mucous membranes are an integral part of the immune system as they form a protective barrier between the inside of the body and the external environment. The mucosal barrier is the first line of immune defence, which is why it is important to help maintain its normal function.
Immumax Protecta has the body’s health covered.
Other Ways to Help Support your Immune System
- Don’t smoke. If you do, this will seriously affect the body’s ability to fight off harmful germs, therefore it is a good idea to stop smoking and give your body a fighting chance.
- Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains – these provide many antioxidants, vitamins and minerals delivering plenty of nutritional value to the body.
- Reduce consumption of processed, high in saturates, refined sugar foods – these provide no nutritional value to the body.

Immune System Advice in the Press
Health Article: Daily Mail: Change your lifestyle to boost your immune system
The immune system is a complex network of organs that include the spleen, bone marrow, tonsils, adenoids – the tissue found at the back of your throat – and the lymphatic system. In order to support your immune system in its battle against infection, there are plenty of dietary and lifestyle changes you can make to help your body fight back. This article presents some exclusive lifestyle tips on ways to boost the immune system naturally.
Get Enough Sleep
Sufficient sleep combined with diet and exercise helps prevent infection. Sleep gives our immune organs – tonsils, sinus and lymph glands – the chance to regenerate. While we are asleep our bodies undergo certain important processes – from repair and renewal to energy restoration. Sleep is important for our immune system – the part of the body that is responsible for fighting infection. Some scientists believe that during sleep we secrete higher levels of cortisol – the hormone secreted by the pituitary gland that protects the immune system – than during the day.
The expert’s advice: Although each person needs different amounts of sleep, aim for at least six hours per night. Learning to relax and steering clear of alcohol will help achieve refreshing, deep sleep.
Give up smoking:
Medical research reveals that smoking can increase the risk of heart and lung disease and also osteoporosis – a disease that weakens bones. More recent studies show that smoking can bring forward the menopause. This is because cigarette chemicals can reduce oestrogen levels in our bodies – the sex hormone needed for ovulation.
Smoking can also increase the risk of infection. Smokers who develop a cold are more likely to suffer from recurrent sore throats which can lead to bronchitis – inflammation of the mucous membrane in the lungs.
The expert’s advice: Apart from giving up smoking, increase your intake of antioxidants – our body’s defences against free radicals – highly-reactive molecules found in pollution that can lead to premature ageing and disease. The best source of antioxidants are vitamin A, C, E and selenium – nutrients found in green and brightly coloured fruit and vegetables. Eating more antioxidants appears to strengthen our immune system by fighting off free radicals.
Take up regular exercise:
Cycling, swimming or regular walks not only reduces stress, but encourages efficient functioning of the lymphatic system – a network of vessels that picks up toxins and removes them from the body. Unlike circulation which relies on the heart to pump blood around the body, the lymph system is dependent on muscular contraction. Working the muscles prevents the lymphatic system from becoming sluggish and promotes efficient removal of toxins.
The expert’s advice: Choose an exercise programme that will keep you motivated. Avoid the temptation to dive in at the deep end. Instead, slowly build up your fitness level to avoid putting undue strain on your body.
Health Article: Daily Mail: Revealed… the 10 foods YOU should be eating now to boost your immune system and ward off colds and flu
This article outlines the foods you should eat to help boost your immune system and why – it is down to the nutrients they contain such as Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin A & E. Read on to discover just how these nutrients can affect your health in a positive way.
A SPOONFUL OF YOGURT
A morning dose of yogurt can help keep your immune system strong. It contains probiotics – which are essentially good bacteria – that help boost your immune system. And, it also helps support healthy gut flow, Ms Moss said. Nearly 70 to 80 per cent of your immune system resides in your gut, according to the nutritionist.
‘You actually have to have a really good, balanced gut to have the most fighting power,’ she explained. Because when bacterial imbalance occurs in the gut, it can throw your system out of whack.
Ms Moss said: ‘Eating something like yogurt, which can help get bacteria in your system… that’s when you’re going to get a huge immune system boost.’
‘If you’re looking to maintain a healthy immune system, it all starts with prevention,’ Ms Moss added.
A CUP OF COOKED SPINACH
Spinach has become famous – and beloved – for its superfood attributes. Ms Moss said: ‘We all know spinach is just a powerhouse vegetable in general. ‘But when it comes to immune fighting, spinach has a couple of other properties that put it high on the list.’
Spinach is rich in folic acid, which helps repair cells. Spinach is the one of the most popular superfoods – and for good reason. According to Ms Moss, it is packed full of vitamin C and folic acid, which help boost your immune system and keep you healthy

OYSTERS
Oysters are known to be an aphrodisiac. But, it is the same nutrient in oysters that ‘get you in the mood’ – zinc – that helps boost your immune system. ‘Oysters are so high in zinc and that’s one of the reasons why they’re a surprising immune-boosting food,’ Ms Moss said.
Zinc not only boosts testosterone – which makes it an aphrodisiac. It also reduces the severity of your cold. Also, if you get enough zinc in your system preventatively, it acts as a shield that protects your immune system.
The Science behind Immumax Protecta
Most studies concerning the efficacy of micronutrients on the immune system are conducted on those with Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Infection (HIV). Many studies have found that micronutrients have helped improve immune response whereas other may hinder (or at least need further studies to definitively decide the amount needed for a beneficial outcome). If immune response is able to be improved through micronutrients such as those found in Immumax Protecta, then they can do for the same for the everyday individual.
In 1996, Tang et al conducted a study titled ‘Effects of Micronutrient Intake on Survival in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Infection’ published in American Journal of Epidemiology.
Here 281 HIV-infected participants completed a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire at their baseline visit in 1984. Levels of daily micronutrient intake were examined in relation to subsequent mortality over the 8-year follow-up period.
Result showed that an intake of B-group vitamins improved survival; β-carotene intake was also associated with improved survival, while increasing intakes of zinc were associated with poorer survival.
Intakes of B6 supplements at more than twice the recommended dietary allowance were associated with improved survival, while intakes of B1, and B2 supplements at levels greater than five times the recommended dietary allowance were associated with improved survival
They concluded that these results support the performance of clinical trials to assess the effects of B-group vitamin supplements on HIV-1 -related survival. And determined further studies are needed to determine the optimal level of zinc intake in HIV-1 -infected individuals.
Subsequently, Kaiser et al conducted a study titled ‘Micronutrient Supplementation Increases CD4 Count in HIV-Infected Individuals on Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy: A Prospective, Double-Blinded, Placebo-Controlled Trial’ Published in JAIDS Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes, 2016.
Here 40 HIV-infected patients taking a stavudine and/or didanosine-based HAART regimen were prospectively randomised to receive micronutrients or placebo twice daily for 12 weeks.
The study examined the effect of micronutrient supplementation effect on the immune system.
Results showed that the mean absolute CD4 (type of white blood cell that fights infection) count increased by an average of 65 cells in the micronutrient group versus a 6-cell decline in the placebo group at 12 weeks.
The absolute CD4 count increased by an average of 24% in the micronutrient group versus a 0% change in the placebo group.
Researchers concluded micronutrient supplementation ‘can’ significantly improve CD4 cell count reconstitution in HIV-infected patients taking HAART. The micronutrient supplement tested was well tolerated and may hold promise as an adjuvant therapy in the treatment of HIV. Further investigation is warranted.
